Abstract
Cyber threats are constantly multiplying and assuming new forms. Modern attacks are designed by skilled, financially motivated and supported adversaries. Globally we’ve passed the point where cyber attacks only target and disrupt IT networks and business applications. Industrial Control Systems (i.e.: electrical power grids, transportation systems, oil & gas pipelines, water management systems, manufacturing facilities, etc.) are now a target posing physical equipment destruction and potential safety risks. Take this opportunity to discuss the emerging threats and defenses applicable to Canada’s Critical Infrastructure and other Industrial Control Systems that underpin our modern society.
Speaker Bio
Dean is the Information Security Officer at Nalcor Energy. Prior to his position there he worked in the telecommunications industry where he specialized in vulnerability assessments, ethical hacking and incident response. Prior to this he worked as a consultant doing Linux/Unix security, penetration testing and security monitoring. Knowing that education is a great defense against modern cyber threats today, he continues his passion in the community by mentoring students in the field, and frequently presents at cybersecurity conferences, associations and non-profit businesses to help build better cybersecurity defenses. Dean is committed to cyber security as is evident with his education holding the following credentials:

- Cyber Security Leader (GSLC), and
- Response & Industrial Defender (GRID)
