Note: This meetup was originally scheduled for Thursday, May 21 and has been rescheduled to Thursday, June 25 due to inclement weather.

Take your portrait photography to the next level with this hands-on workshop presented by Ken Thomas of Ken Thomas Photography! We're diving into the art of balancing off-camera flash with natural light to create stunning Golden Hour portraits — all with simple, portable, and affordable gear.

About Your Presenter:
Ken Thomas has had photography in his blood since picking up his first camera at age twelve. Before turning to portrait and wedding work, he honed his technical chops in the demanding world of professional sports photography — where there are no second chances and getting the shot right means mastering light under pressure. Today, with over 20 years of experience and more than 700 weddings documented across the Carolinas, Ken brings that same precision and passion to every session.

What You'll Learn:

  • The Foundation — How to dial in your manual camera settings for optimal natural light before a flash ever enters the picture.
  • The Power of One — How to achieve a creative, professional look using a single off-camera speedlight paired with portable modifiers.
  • Creative Control — An introduction to color correction and creative gels to give your images a unique edge.
  • We'll be working with the Godox V1 Speedlight system throughout the session, and if time allows, we'll also explore a two-light arrangement.

Come Ready to Shoot!
Bring your camera! If you're shooting with the Godox system, bring your transmitter for some hands-on time. Canon users, we've got you covered — compatible Godox transmitters will be on hand for you to test-drive during the workshop.

This is a share-and-learn session, so come curious, come ready to experiment, and let's make some beautiful light together.
