Observability: What’s this new movement about?

Details
In the modern era of distributed systems — Kubernetes, AWS, APIs, etc. — it has gotten harder and harder for us to debug our systems. One request from your application could touch a dozen or more systems; when the response is just “500,” how do you debug the problem?
Based on the new tracing standard from the W3C, vendors and the OpenTelemetry project are working to make these problems much easier to solve — leading some to declare that “observability-driven development” is a new technique for all engineers working with complex distributed systems!
At the end of this session, attendees will have the bigger picture of what’s going on in Observability — who some of the players are, and how the movement is working to solve problems for you.
Steve Wainstead has worked as a software engineer since the Dot Com era. He is currently a staff engineer for Diligent Corporation, a leader in the corporate governance space, working with AWS and Kubernetes.
