What we’re about
Shirat Shalom, which means "Song of Peace" is a family centered, affordable congregation which promotes Jewish and spiritual growth. Established in 1998 as a "congregation without walls" we are able to keep membership minimal and focus on our mission to bring our children and families back to the spiritual roots of Judaism.
Whether you are interested in attending services, our meditation/healing circle, Torah study group, holiday celebrations, social get togethers or our innovative Hebrew school and B'nai Mitzvah online tutoring program, we welcome you to our Shirat Shalom family!
So what gave us the idea to originally form? A group of us wanted an affordable way to provide a warm and intimate environment for our children to develop a strong Jewish identity while providing a spiritual community for the adults. Years later, our model which we call "Judaism of the Heart" is still working!
So how have we managed all these years without a building? Our main services, High Holy Days and Friday evenings are held at the Olympic Heights High School. We follow a Reform format while incorporating traditional, modern and innovative Jewish influences. We believe in "engaging all ages."
Our adult Torah study group, meditation/healing circle and Shabbat morning circle meet at members' homes. For social get togethers, holiday celebrations and other programs it just depends! Havdalah may be at the beach and a "Pet Meet and Greet" where our rabbi give our dogs Hebrew names may be at a park!
Our innovative Hebrew school is held in the Loggers' Run Middle School. We have a saying, "Just ask us why our kids leave smiling!" We also have an online B'nai Mitzvah tutoring program for children who do not attend Hebrew School. For the ceremony we create a sanctuary wherever the parents decide to have the Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony.
As part of our educational program for children we integrate the Infinite Child Institute where children learn too connect to their Infinite Light Vision. Find our more here: https://connectiontohealing.org/infinite-child-institute/
Many of our families are interfaith and we respect however a family chooses to raise their children, including raising children with both religions. We teach our Hebrew School children that there are many ways to climb a mountain... we all meet at the top!
I am the cantor and education director but I am also the rebbetzin as I am married to the rabbi of Shirat Shalom, Rabbi David Degani! We love being the spiritual leaders of Shirat Shalom! And we so look forward to meeting you!
