Socrates Cafe - April 22, 2023

Details
Socrates Cafe is a concept that was developed by philosopher Christopher Phillips in the 1990s and published in his book "Socrates Cafe". It provides a forum for open and respectful dialogue among individuals who gather to discuss and explore philosophical questions and ideas.
The basic idea behind Socrates Cafe is to encourage people to engage in philosophical conversations with one another in a public setting, such as a coffee shop or a community center. Participants are encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas, and to listen to and learn from others in a respectful and non-judgmental manner.
The aim of a Socrates Cafe is not to reach a consensus or to come to any particular conclusion, but rather to engage in a process of inquiry and exploration. By engaging in philosophical dialogue, participants are encouraged to think critically and to consider new perspectives and ideas, which can help to broaden their understanding of the world around them.
Attendees, in-person and on-line, submit a question for discussion, the group votes on their choice from the submitted questions and we have a lively discussion of the question by defining its terms/concepts, challenging any built-in assumptions/beliefs, and examining alternative perspectives.
For our Meetup friends . . . most of our attendees are notified of our Socrates Cafe meetings via an emailing list - which has been circulating since 2003. So, even if there are no attendees listed in Meetup, you can expect 8-15 people at the physical location and 1 or more on the Zoom call. Hope to see you there!!!!
Prof and Fran are hosting Socrates Cafe from 9-11 AM Mountain on April 22, 2023 at their home. Their address is 13775 Pine Country Lane, Conifer CO.
