Lower Pogonip: Abbey Road and Trail Loop

From The Abbey coffee shop, we take a short but interesting suburban route, up steep Highland Ave, and then suddenly drop into the redwood forest and chaparral of Pogonip. Based on interest, we can either make a loop through lower Pogonip and back out to Highland. Or, we can loop up through Pogonip to the UCSC perimeter, and back via Spring Street.

Note: We will pass by a few scattered homeless camps next to Harvey West Park and there is often some trash in that location. This is a good chance to have a discussion of what can be done, both w/r to the impact on trails, and to the larger homeless issue.

Schedule:
Noon to 12:15 -- Gather in The Abbey courtyard (we will move to just outside the front door, closer to 12:15). Coffee and bathrooms are available.
12:15 -- Walk up Highland Avenue, and take the offramp into Pogonip.
~2:15 -- Arrive back at The Abbey
