Bonnie Doon Ecological Reserve: Endemic & Iconic Species ID
Details
If you thought wildflower season was over, and love surprises, this is the hike for you! The Reserve was badly burned during the CZU fire … which … fertilized the soil with ash, and triggered the so called “fire followers” to sprout. I innocently attended an event hosted by California Native Plant Society members, thinking they'd be vigorously debating the taxonomy of various dried up shrubbery, all while having fun. I was right with the last part. But, the array of wildly blooming plants of all varieties, and foliage from silvery grey to deep green, took me by surprise. I made notes when I could, of pronouncements by the taxonomy gods, and (spoiler alert) plan to post a bunch of photos from the hike, to offer a baby catalog of what we will see. If we can identify them all again, in the wild, maybe the names will be easier to remember. Let's find out!
If you use a plant ID app, or other reference work, please bring them. This is an all hands on deck event.
