Henry Cowell Crossing San Lorenzo - 7+ miles - 1400 TEG

Details

Let's cool off in Henry Cowell by crossing the San Lorenzo River - 3 times - on this 7+ mile hike with nearly 1400' total elevation gain. If you want to join the hike, you'll need to cross in some kind of footwear like watershoes or your hiking shoes, since crossing barefoot can be slippery and dangerous.

Because we'll be crossing through the water - there are no bridges, everyone will go on the waitlist initially. If I have never hiked with you, I will DM you to find out how comfortable you are with this kind of hike.

Our route from AllTrails will be through the Redwood Grove, counter clockwise to River Trail, Rincon and Big Rock Hole Trail, crossing the river 3 times to Buckeye Trail, onto Powder Mill and then Pine Trail, Eagle Creek Trail back to River Trail. We'll stop briefly at the Observation Deck.

Trail is Moderately Challenging: The route, rated as moderately challenging, is generally well-maintained with some steep sections and shaded areas. Poison Oak is abundant especially on Big Rock Hole. River crossings can be knee-high, and ticks have been reported. Conditions may be warm and dry with some overgrown sections by the river. Distance and elevation is an estimate.

This group hikes at a fairly fast pace, averaging 2.7mph. Please allow 3-4 hours and remember to bring your adventurous good attitude!

Where to meet: We'll meet in front of the Mountain Parks Nature Store. Please arrive ahead of time to use the restrooms and be ready to start promptly at 9:00am after a quick round of introductions.

What to bring: plenty of water, sun and tick protection, and anything else that you like for your hikes. We'll break for a snack at the observation deck.

State Park fee - $10 without pass. No dogs on these trails.
