Unseen Nisene #1: Old Growth & Vienna Woods, 6 miles, 1,300’ TEG [Nisene Marks]

Let’s explore what Lower Nisene’s got to offer. We will hike straight from Peet’s Coffee (Rancho del Mar) (Google Maps) , (iPhone iMap) into some of the oldest redwoods remaining in Nisene Marks.

Simple yet scenic, our route descends from shopping mall civilization into old-growth meandering creeks. The Aptos Rancho Trail is a perfect starting point to experience the breadth of Nisene Marks.

We will stop briefly for photos and botanical wonder, but not to the detriment of a moderate pace, 2+ mph going up and ~3 mph on the way down. You may wish to bring walking sticks, or be ready to use a branch for possible stream crossings (summer bridges make most of these crossings very easy).
