Roundtable on Art and Technology in Public Computer Centers
Details
This special meeting of Connect Chicago will be held as a part of an exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art. It will be held at a conference room table in the middle of an art installation called The Nature of the Beast by Goshka Macuga at the Museum of Contemporary Art (http://www2.mcachicago.org/). The artist "designed the exhibition space with a real emphasis on accommodating and encouraging meetings for discussion groups".
We will contribute some of the outputs of our meeting— photographs, notes, and so on— for inclusion in the archive that accompanies the artwork.
The meeting will focus on various models for inclusion of art in public computer centers and community technology centers throughout Chicago. We are limited to 16 attendees, so we will not be able to come even close to including all of the people who are working in this space. If there is a waiting list, we will schedule a follow-up.
Here's additional information from MCA:
The Nature of the Beast can accommodate groups of up to 16 people. Larger groups cannot be accommodated and additional chairs will not be provided. Museum admission is waived for members of your group. Each member of the group should check in at the admissions desk on the second floor. General museum guidelines apply: no food or drink allowed in the galleries; pencils only; backpacks must be checked before entering the galleries. For a complete list of museum guidelines, click here (http://www2.mcachicago.org/visit/guidelines). The meeting space is provided “as is.” Easels, projectors, and additional seating are not permitted. Be aware that your meeting is taking place in a public space and your participation becomes an important performative element in the artwork. An expectation of privacy is unrealistic. The artist requires that you provide some form of documentation as part of the living archive of the work. Smartphone photographs, audio recordings, and minutes are all valid submissions. Please e-mail your documentation to beast@mcachicago.org. If file size is an issue, contact us to arrange an adequate transfer of the file(s). Any documentation submitted may also be used on the MCA’s website or for announcements to publicize the exhibition and The Nature of the Beast.
