Connecting Neuroscience, Law, Psychology and Spirituality

Details
-Our goal is to connect the dots of Neuroscience, Law, Psychology, and Spirituality and turn those insights into personal, practical actions, which will ultimately impact our world and those in it.
-We are eager to grapple with questions arising from the discovery of the neurobiological complexity that lies between the world outside and the subjective experience we are having at any given moment.
What Will Happen
-We’ll watch videos, consider “big questions,” listen and argue. We’ll work together to gain a clearer understanding of the latest findings in Neuroscience and what those mean for our lives. We’ll courageously speak about what we believe and humbly ask ourselves if those beliefs still hold up. And we’ll keep on asking.
-We’ll work together in small groups to “problem solve” significant issues and questions. We’ll share our deliberations in the larger group and consider them together.
-The synergistic affect of open and honest communication between individuals with different backgrounds and interests has proven itself invaluable for creating unique and "outside the box" tools and solutions.
-We are not neuroscience professionals. We have no credentials except a voracious appetite for following the new findings that have opened up since the advent of brain imaging. If you are a professional or an academic and wish to join us in this endeavor, you are welcome.
What Some People Are Hoping to Get from This Experience
-The exhilaration of a deeper understanding of ourselves as human beings
-A more realistic understanding of how much free will we have.
-For some it might be a way to seek spiritual experiences through science.
-How and why to question our decision making processes.
-More effective ways to talk politics and other sensitive topics.
-Being less judgmental.
-Being a better parent
-A way to impact deeply flawed institutions like the Criminal Justice System
-Improve our critical thinking skills
-All supplies will be furnished by the Neuroscience Planning Group. Note taking materials are always a good thing. Drinking water will be provided.
5828 Worth St. Dallas, TX 75214. We will meet in a classic Quaker Meeting House deep in the heart of East Dallas. We’re about 3 blocks south of Lakewood Shopping Center right in front of the William Lipscomb Elementary School. Nearest cross streets: Worth and Abrams.
WHAT ELSE?
-We meet from 6:00 pm - 7:20 pm. There is an hour long silent worship beginning at 7:30 and we have agree to be out of the building before 7:30 so that silence may ensue.
-Visitors are welcome to participate in the silence if they wish.
- Because an hour and twenty minutes goes fast, some groups may wish to continue the conversation at nearby Starbucks or Whole Foods.
-Although the meetup occurs only once a month on the 3rd Wednesday (for now) you are invited — if you wish — to attend the weekly Planning Group. Same time , same place.
-The meeting house has one restroom only. So plan accordingly.
