Psychology Meetup: Let's Talk "Situationships"

Details

The world of modern dating offers more possibilities than ever. From polyamory to chosen singlehood, we are encouraged to define love on our own terms. At first glance, that might feel like freedom and personal empowerment.

But without shared scripts or societal anchors, clarity often gets lost. That's where situationships emerge, in the grey zone where what remains unsaid carries more weight than what's spoken.

A situationship is typically a romantic or sexual connection that lacks clear definition and commitment. It is often marked by uncertainty: emotionally intimate but undefined, romantic but noncommittal. Sometimes both people prefer that. More often, one wants more while the other keeps it vague. In the space between them, longing, hope and heartache quietly build.

In this conversation, we'll explore questions like:

  • Do we accept the love we think we deserve?
  • What is the interplay between freedom and responsibility in romantic love?
  • How do ambiguity, fear and fantasy shape romantic attachments?
  • What role does online dating play in the rise of situationships?
  • Can we set (and uphold) boundaries in the absence of clear structure?
  • Can a situationship ever evolve into something more defined and lasting?
  • How do we honour our own needs without losing openness for others?

Come join us in this discussion of modern love's grey zones!
