The Psychology of Rebellion

Details
Have you ever felt a deep, electric "no" rise up in your body?
Rebellion is often painted in extremes: angry protests, bold refusals, societal upheaval. But more often, it's quiet. A line drawn in the sand. A truth you're no longer willing to silence. A refusal to go on living at odds with yourself.
Rebellion isn't always about overthrowing systems. Sometimes, it's about refusing to betray ourselves. To stop editing who we are to make others comfortable. To protect what matters, even when no one else sees its value. Sometimes, it's a stand against injustice; others, it's a cry for dignity. Perhaps, rebellion may just be the moment we decide our soul is worth the risk.
Where does the spark of rebellion come from? Is it intrinsic to the human nature? Does it emerge because something is wrong, or because something in us insists on what is right?
In this week's Connection Circle, we'll explore the psychology of rebellion—how it begins in our bodies, beliefs and boundaries, and how it reverberates through our relationships, cultures and communities. We'll reflect on what rebellion reveals about the human spirit, how it's shaped by power and trauma, and what it costs to resist. And we'll ask what our own moments of rebellion have revealed about who we are, what we need, and what we're no longer willing to live without.
This conversation will leave space for questions like:
- What causes a person—or a people—to rebel?
- Is rebellion a reflex or a conscious act (or both)?
- Can rebellion be an act of love? Can it deepen connection?
- What forms of rebellion (subtle or overt) have you practiced in your life?
- What vision of life, relationship or society have you had to protect through resistance?
- How has your family rebelled or resisted? Your community?
Whether you're a quiet resistor, a bold disruptor, or simply curious about how rebellion shapes our inner and outer worlds, you are warmly invited to join us.
