wncn Circular Economy Project – Torn Treasures
This workshop offers a thoughtful and tactile experience focused on the beauty of repair, the stories in ageing fabric, and the value of mending over discarding. Designed for anyone curious about sustainable living and creative expression, it invites participants into a space where worn-out garments are seen not as waste, but as vessels of meaning and potential.

Workshop format and themes
Torn Treasures is delivered in two sessions. The first begins with a guided meditation exploring the idea that damage and imperfection can be meaningful, like creases in well-read books or patina on cherished tools. Participants will reflect through guided journaling and are invited to bring in an old or worn item of clothing or fabric accessory they would like to repair, rework or embellish. If no item is brought, a selection of materials and fabric scraps will be available.

The second session allows time to continue the visible mending process at a comfortable pace. Participants are guided step-by-step in basic stitching and embellishment techniques, using reclaimed materials where possible. The focus is not on making art, but on care, continuity and creative repair. This aligns with circular economy values by encouraging reuse, mindful consumption and waste prevention.
Practical takeaways

Participants will leave with a renewed or embellished garment or fabric piece – not a perfect finish, but a personally meaningful one. The visible mending process encourages reflection and creativity, while offering a practical skill that supports more sustainable habits at home. The atmosphere supports relaxed connection and shared conversation, making it a good fit for environmental initiatives, local community events, or adult education programmes.

This workshop is particularly suited to groups interested in sustainability, local circular economy initiatives, or community resilience. It also works well as part of awareness weeks, library events, or in partnership with local environmental organisations.
