What we’re about
Conscious Conversations is a bi-weekly discussion series primarily centered on Black expat experiences in Chiang Mai. Most of our sessions are specifically for the Black diaspora, though we occasionally host open discussions on topics that benefit from cross-cultural dialogue.
Whether you identify as African, African American, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Latino, or any part of the Black diaspora, this space is for exploring the complexities of identity, culture, community, and life as Black expats in Thailand.
What We Do:
We gather for 3-hour intimate discussions (typically 7-15 people) to explore topics ranging from identity and cultural navigation to entrepreneurship, mental health, relationships, and the controversial dynamics within our communities. These aren't lectures or networking events - they're genuine conversations where we share personal experiences, challenge assumptions, and build understanding across our diverse backgrounds.

We speak from personal experience, not generalizations
We listen to understand, not to debate
We create space for disagreement without disrespect
We honor confidentiality and trust
We welcome questions asked in good faith
Who Should Come:
Anyone from the Black diaspora living in or visiting Chiang Mai who wants deeper connection and honest dialogue. You don't need to be an expert on anything - just bring your experiences, curiosity, and willingness to engage authentically.
Format:
Bi-weekly sessions, typically 2-5pm on Sundays

Discussion prompts guide conversation, but we let dialogue flow naturally
Sometimes we provide food, sometimes it's potluck - we figure it out together
This is about building genuine community through conversation. No performative networking, no surface-level "expat happy hours" - just real talk with people navigating similar experiences in a culture far from home.
