Artificial Life in the Cloud

Details

With the rise of cloud computing and the movement to add intelligent agents to the cloud, a number of new and interesting challenges result. What form will these agents take and what does it mean when these agents grow to embody their data? What are the ethical concerns if agents existing in cloud environments are removed from prior processing constraints? This talk presents three different perspectives in a trialogue format allowing audience questions to frame the discussion.

Kevin M. O'Connor (KMO) was an early employee at Amazon.com. He has published over 350 interviews with authors, activists, technologists, farmers, artists and keen observers of the transitional culture. He lives in Brooklyn, NY with his partner and 3-legged cat.

Larry Yaeger works at Google. He generated the computer graphic special effects for The Last Starfighter, 2010, and Labyrinth. At Apple, he created the artificial life project, Polyworld.

Tom Barbalet founded Noble Ape in 1996. He is in the early stages of moving Noble Ape to the cloud. He is a senior software developer at Netflix.

Due to the talk being after hours at Netflix the doors to the front entrance and the main foyer will be maintained by Netflix staff attending the talk. The doors will be open from 6.30pm but close promptly at 7pm. Please arrive early to get in the doors. There will be fluid refreshments provided by Netflix.
