The Cost of Isolation as we Age
Details
No question about it—humanity is in a crisis of major proportions. We are clearly living in an age of anxiety—our ever evolving fascist government and its devaluing human decency and morality, the climate catastrophe causing endless damage around the globe and the horrendous and unspeakable treatment of humans we are witnessing in many wars throughout the world all affect our wellbeing.
Then there is our own anxiety including the many challenges attributed to aging. We might have health concerns, or less energy, less cash, or feeling overwhelmed by life’s demands that we may not be going out as much as we used to.
It is no wonder life has become very very challenging.
We seem to be running just to stand still.
And thus, there is much social isolation leading not only a reduced quality of life but also real health concerns both physically and in cognitive decline.
So how do we deal with this??
For many living in elder communities is a long-term solution. There is built in connections that can break the isolation problem. But not everyone is in the position to move.
And social Isolation is a major problem.
Fortunately, we are living in a world where technology can assist us. There are many online classes and zoom meetings and many concerts that though not in person, still contribute to our connecting with others.
On a more one on one basis—we can meet with friends to eat meals together each in your own home, meet with friends to watch movies together each in your own home, meet with friends to play games together each in your own home.
What else?
In this meeting we will be talking about both the challenge of loneliness as well as different ways to deal with this.
Come join us on October 8th from 5-6:30 PST
