# When Life Doesn’t Go the Way You Planned and How You Survived
Life is full of the unexpected. When things don’t go as planned, it doesn’t just disrupt us—it can shake our very foundation. Loved ones die. Relationships end. Illness enters our lives or the lives of those we love. Financial realities shift. And suddenly, life as we knew it is no longer available to us.
In those moments, the ground beneath us gives way. What once felt stable no longer holds us. We are left to find our footing again—often ungrounded, uncertain, and without a clear sense of what comes next. These are not the moments we would have chosen. Yet they are the ones that shape us—quietly, powerfully, and often without our full awareness.
Each of us has faced disappointment, loss, or plans that didn’t unfold as expected. And we have all found ways through. Sometimes with resilience and determination. Sometimes by simply enduring. Sometimes by shutting down. And sometimes by taking on habits or addictions that might hurt us.
Still, we are here. We have survived.
But survival comes at a cost.
When the life we knew no longer holds us, we are forced to pivot. We regroup, adapt, and construct a new way of being. Sometimes it may be driven by a commitment to be stronger than before, so that we never feel that hurt again. Sometimes it may be driven by fear, protection, or the need to avoid feeling that way again. Both responses can shape how much risk we are willing to take in the future.
And over time, these responses don’t just help us get through—they become how we live.
In this session, we will take a more honest look at these patterns.
What do you actually know about yourself in these moments?
Together, we will look not only at our past stories but more importantly how we responded to these challenges. And most importantly, whether those responses are still serving us today.
Are they worth repeating, or have they perhaps outlived their usefulness? Are we content with the way we have found our ways of coping or Is it time to find new ways of coping?
