What we’re about
If you're a lesbian or queer woman interested in having happier, healthier relationships, this Meetup is for you - whether you're currently single, healing from a breakup, dating, in love, or in a long-term relationship. Our classes and gatherings will help you learn the skills to find the right partner, BE the right partner, and create the relationship of your dreams.
We welcome all women who love women - or want to - whether you're lesbian, bi, queer, butch, boi, stud, femme, trans, same-gender-loving, or go by some other label or none at all. We love building community by helping growth-oriented lesbians and queer women connect with one another and support each other in learning how to date wisely and have conscious, healthy relationships.
Our approach blends science, psychology and spirit to help women love women - better. (Our backgrounds are in Neuroscience, Buddhism, Transpersonal Psychology and theology.) Our motto is: relationships don't have to be hard! But having an easy, joyful, fulfilling, lasting love does take having the right tools, and learning the right skills. Our Meetups will help.

Portland Pride is July 19 and 20. Instead of the traditional Dyke March, there's a "Pride and Protest" picnic gathering on Saturday the 19th at the traditional end of the march. https://www.facebook.com/events/4102737393325972?active_tab=about
Let's meet up at 5 prior to the 5:30 event just across the street in the shade under a tree (near the purple pin drop) to introduce ourselves (feel free to bring friends, especially those who may be interested in learning about Conscious Girlfriend Academy) and picnic just before and during the event.
This is a great opportunity to meet Conscious Girlfriend Academy (CGA) members from classes in person, to reunite with CGA alumni, to learn more about the Academy if you're new or curious, to make friends for attending other Pride events, and to participate in a protest. This event is wheelchair accessible, family-friendly.
The "Picnic and Protest" event takes place in the North Park blocks, on the block just south of Davis at the Monahan playground. Let's convene under a tree for some mellow socializing on the block just north of Davis (see map), where we can hear each other well, but easily wander across Davis to the speakers and performances if so inclined. I'll have a pink umbrella. (see the pin drop for the North Park Blocks on the attached map for approximate picnic location).
Bring: a picnic (or pick something up from a food cart at the nearby Cart Blocks or World Foods), water, a mask (requested by Pride and Protest organizers), something to sit on, and a protest sign if so inclined.
Weather: as of this posting, it looks like we'll have a break from the heat with a forecast high of 77.
Map: we'll be near the purple pin.About Jenny S. and Nancy G., who are co-organizing this event: Neither of us work for CGA, but we've been participants in some of the classes and a retreat and have found them to be of tremendous value in learning about and establishing stronger relationship skills, which spill over into every area of life. The CGA community is extremely strong and supportive - a great place to land and meet others who want to grow, no matter your life stage or prior experience. Lesbian dating can be challenging.
Lesbian relationships can be challenging.
Lesbian sex can be amazing... and challenging.
🖤
Here's the thing. Straight people get constant practice and reinforcement. But where on earth do you, as a lesbian or queer woman, get a supportive place to practice:
... Asking a woman out.
...Letting her know you're interested, or not interested.
...Asking for something different in the connection.
...Letting her know more about your needs, including your sexual needs. ...Making requests.
...Setting boundaries.
...Bringing up something that's bothering you.
... Sharing what you really feel, without fear."I knew more about growing organic broccoli than I did about how to choose a partner and make a relationship work," one of our members said ruefully after her expensive lesbian divorce. She wasn't alone. There hasn't been a place for our community to learn this stuff... until now.
In Conscious Girlfriend Academy's weekly Dating, Love & Connection Skills Lab, you'll get to build and practice the skills you need in a compassionate, supporive, low-stakes environment (as opposed to with the person who matters most!), so you can:
🖤 Stop stuffing your feelings or hoping they'll go away (because that will never ultimately get you what you want.)
🖤 Stop saying things that push the other person away, when what you really want is to connect.
🖤 Avoid triggers and endless "lesbian processing loops."
🖤 Pay attention to dating red flags and look for true compatibility.
🖤 Get good at turning tough conversations into easier ones, so you can create the connection, love and sex you've always wanted. (By the way, these skills work great with friends, too.)

## Longtime Lesbian Or Newly Out, Single Or Coupled...This Sexual Compatibility Class Is For You
Learn what really makes sex vibrant between women, how to find, recognize and tend a great sexual relationship, and what to do if it feels like you've lost the spark.
This live-on-Zoom class is on sale for just $25 (normally $50!) You must >register and pay here on our website (a Meetup RSVP alone won't get you in.) It's taught by seasoned lesbian educator Ruth L. Schwartz, Ph.D., founder of the Conscious Girlfriend Academy, the leading global resource helping lesbians and queer women prevent heartbreak, date wisely and love well.
Ruth says, "My own lesbian marriage ended because we couldn't keep our sex life alive. After my divorce, I studied sex coaching for three years at the Somatica Institute, with Jaiya Ma, and elsewhere, and I now have radical new ways of understanding what sex really is, how it actually works, why it can be hard to keep it alive, and what to do about it. I'll never know if my marriage could have survived if I'd known then what I know now, but I sure wish I'd had the chance to find out. That's why I'm so passionate about teaching this class!"
### What You'll Learn
- What sexual compatibility really means in women loving women relationships, and how to spot red flags and green lights early.
- Why Lesbian Bed Death (lesbian/queer couples who stop having sex) is so common, even when the sex was great in the beginning, and what to do about it.
- How to handle it when one partner in a long-term lesbian couple loses interest.
- The unique challenges and opportunities in lesbian or queer sexual connection.
- How to talk about sex and intimacy from the beginning of a lesbian relationship (and why you should)
- How to broach the topic and get help, even after years of hurt, confusion, anger or scar tissue buildup around absent or unsatisfying sex.
- How to keep sex strong even as aging or other life changes impact your body and desire.
***
### Who This Class is For
- Lesbian or queer couples (or individual members of a couple) who feel their erotic energy or connection has faded, and want to bring it back.
- Lesbian or queer singles who've struggled with sexual compatibility in the past, and want tools to make sure that doesn't happen in the future.
- Lesbians or queer women (and adjacent non-binary people) who worry if there's something wrong with your libido or turn-ons, and want to feel more comfortable and confident.
- Women-loving-women who know you love sex and want to keep having it, but struggle with a body changing due to menopause, medications, aging or illness.
- Queer women who miss having great sex in your relationship, but aren't sure what to do.
### Expect laughter. Expect relief. Expect aha moments.
### Leave feeling more whole, because empowered sexuality is part of wholeness. Great for singles or couples.
