What we’re about
Welcome to the Conshohocken Volleyball Learners Meetup!
We are...
- a group of volleyball enthusiasts
- whose skill levels generally span B, BB, and A
- who actively play volleyball in local leagues, tournaments, and open play
- but recognize that a huge part of getting better at the game is to practice with similarly-skilled and like-minded people. Yes, you can definitely learn while playing a game, but using practice and drills to get the reps in and give each other feedback is crucial to accelerating that learning.
What we do
We organize meetups specifically for the purpose of running drills and practicing. In the summer, this typically involves setting up a net and lines in the grass.
One such meetup may see us running hitting lines for a while (for improving setting and spiking), followed by a serve/serve-receive drill. We share with each other what aspect of a skill we're consciously working on or would like feedback on. We might record video on our phones so a person can see what their current technique looks like. Etcetera.
Where
This group may have "Conshohocken" in the title, but we range as far east as Downingtown and north to Schwenksville. Common meeting places are Exton's Miller Park, Wayne's Wilson Farm Park, and Conshy's Colwell Park.
"Is this for me?"
Currently, we welcome those
- playing at a B-level or higher who are
- excited about improving their game.
You might be B-level if:
- Rules: you have a thorough understanding of the game
- Serving: your serves are overhand and stay in play > 75% of the time
- Passing: you know how to form a platform and most of your passes make it to the setter
- Hitting: you're familiar with "the approach" and arm swing mechanics
- Blocking: you typically attempt to block if there's a hitter in front of you
- Setting: you know how to open-hand set
Essentially, you know all the basic skills, but struggle with technique, consistency, timing, aim, power, etc.
"I don't think I'm B-level yet, but I do want to get better."
Here are some alternatives:
- Join a Heyday volleyball league
- Attend an open-play event run by one of the several area volleyball meetup groups.
- Attend a Bob Bertucci adult volleyball weekender camp (Strongly recommended!)
- Attend a Randy Syracuse clinic (email him at randyms05 at yahoo dot com)
- Check back here later, because we may open ourselves up to a broader audience at some point
