Asian Pear Picking Party and Coffee Klatch

Details

If you've never had an Asian pear before, you're in for a treat.

Imagine a rich Bartlett pear combined with a Honeycrisp apple but make the juice more syrupy with a hint of sweet green grapes, starfruit, and pineapple. It's like a summer sugar bomb.

My neighbor has two sizeable trees so laden with fruit the limbs are bowing down to the ground and breaking, so they have given me free reign to pillage. We'll assemble at my place for 15 minutes, walk over and pick for about 30 minutes, and then head back for some conversation. If you're late, you won't be able to find us and you'll miss out on the goodies. There is also a regular Bartlett-type pear tree further down the property that might be ripe by then, too.

Afterwards, we'll relax on my sunny garden patio, sip our beverages, eat our snacks, and talk about hiking, gardening, travel, whatever. (No politics or I'll sic the squirrels on you.) I'll share gardening tips, birding advice and sightings, and previews of coming attractions for the events I'm posting this fall and winter.

I'll send attendees the address the day before via Meetup direct messaging, I'm off Highway 26 and Cedar Hills Boulevard in Portland. Lots of on-street parking in a quiet, safe neighborhood. Six Adirondack chairs available with lots of pillows but they're kinda low to the ground, so spread out your own camping chair if you like. Bottled water available.

Bring your coffee/beverage/sack lunch/snacks, a bag for your Asian pears, WEATHER appropriate clothing, camping chair, and a sun hat. Restroom on site. Adults only, please, and no pets, thanks.
