Olukemi Lijadu and Phillip Lai at Spike Island
The Orchard Inn, 12 Hanover Place, Bristol, GBHaving visited Spike Island in November to see the brilliant work of Nour Jaouda and Dan Lie, it feels like we're coming back very soon, but there's good reason, with a new exhibition of work by Olukemi Lijadu and Phillip Lai now on display.
A bit about the artists:
Olukemi Lijadu: This is the largest solo exhibition by the Nigerian-British artist, filmmaker and DJ. Developed through extensive research in Chicago, Lagos, and Bristol, Feedback centres around a major film commission and marks a landmark in the artist’s moving image practice.Phillip Lai: This is a major solo exhibition of his new work (b.1969, Kuala Lumpur), bringing together a body of sculptural commissions that continue the artist’s exploration of the material world around us. This will be the most significant institutional presentation of Lai’s work to date.

It should be a brilliant afternoon out, and I can't wait to see many old and new faces over the afternoon. If you have any questions on this or anything do let me know.
Looking forward to seeing you there!Admin costs:
Regulars to this group will notice the £2 RSVP fee for this event (which goes up to £2.64 with the annoying PayPal fee). While I really don't want this group to feel transactional in any way, with Spike Island being free to visit anyway, the fee just allows me to cover the costs of running the group in the first place, which are now over £300 a year.Event details:
12pm: We'll meet at The Orchard Inn, nearby to Spike Island. Please arrive at any point over the hour before 1pm.1pm: We'll head into the gallery and congregate in the reception/lobby area before heading around the exhibition and space. Spike Island usually deliver a talk for us as a group, so I'll push for this as always.
2:30pm: We'll finish and enjoy a coffee and food at the Spike Island Gallery cafe.
Before the event:
You'll receive a MeetUp message ahead of the event letting you know on any updates to the event, so make sure you check this before coming along. What to bring:
A notebook if you want to write down your thoughts.Preparation:
Extra marks for anyone who does some research on the exhibition.Etiquette:
As always, if you can't make it just send a message to let me know and take your name off the RSVP list.Cost:
For the first time, there is a small £2 charge for this, just to help me cover the admin fees for running this group. For context, it costs £170 every 6 months to keep the group going. Thank you for your support 🙏
