Addressing High Accuracy Geolocation Challenges with Intel® Smart Edge Software

Details
Geolocation is becoming increasingly important in a wide variety of applications, ranging from location-based services for wearables and smartphones to IoT, industrial applications and autonomous vehicles. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) like GPS or Galileo are commonly used for this purpose, and the advances in hardware technology have brought us sophisticated receivers with fine capabilities. But the stand-alone hardware approach is starting to show limitations in terms of complexity, accuracy, power consumption and price. Albora and Intel are collaborating to change the paradigm, by using Albora’s software-powered algorithms on top of Intel’s edge platforms to enhance simple, low-cost, connected hardware devices to achieve centimeter-level accuracy in challenging scenarios, where the traditional hardware approach is impractical.
Join us in this event where Dr. Ernest Artiaga from Albora Technologies will discuss how the softwarization of the GNSS technology will provide high accuracy geolocation everywhere, for both mass-market and industrial applications.
Dr. Ernest Artiaga is a computer scientist with a strong background in high-performance computing, including parallel and distributed systems, middleware and operating systems. He also has a broad experience in computer security, project management and software architecture, developed in both academic research and production environments. His career started as a researcher on Operating Systems in the Department of Computer Architecture at UPC in Barcelona. Then, he moved to the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN), where he worked on IT Security, focusing on large scale intrusion detection. Back to Barcelona, he contributed to set up the first MareNostrum supercomputer at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), and obtained his Ph.D. on Distributed File Systems. After switching to industry, he gained experience in both start-ups and large companies, fulfilling different roles in the area of distributed architectures. He is currently the CTO at Albora Technologies, a company devoted to developing the next-generation software-based GNSS.
