At this Meetup, we’ll explore one of the deepest philosophical and scientific questions of human existence:
What is the relationship between the mind and the brain?
For centuries, philosophers, scientists, theologians, and psychologists have wrestled with questions like:
- What is the mind?
- Is the mind simply the brain?
- Do humans possess an immaterial soul or consciousness beyond physical matter?
- Are free will and moral responsibility real—or just illusions created by brain chemistry?
- Can consciousness, love, beauty, and personal identity be reduced to physical processes?
- What makes humans distinct from machines or artificial intelligence?
- What would it mean if human beings are nothing more than biological machines?
Author Marilynne Robinson once wrote: “Whoever controls the definition of the mind controls the definition of humankind itself.”
