MEETUP DISCUSSION: “AI – Can an AI Be Truly Human?”
Saturday, July 11 at 9:30 AM
Can an AI ever be truly conscious — or is it only a highly sophisticated imitation?
Artificial Intelligence is advancing at an astonishing pace. It can write essays, create art, hold conversations, solve complex problems, and even pass as human in many situations. Tools like Grok and ChatGPT are becoming increasingly capable and natural-sounding every day.
But beneath the impressive capabilities lies a deeper philosophical question: Can a machine ever possess genuine consciousness, subjective experience, or true humanity — or will it always remain a powerful simulation?
At this Meetup, we’ll explore the fascinating intersection of AI, Consciousness, and Human Identity. We’ll ask not only what AI can do, but what it might never be able to achieve.
Together we’ll discuss questions like:
- What does it actually mean to be conscious or “truly human”?
- Can an AI ever have genuine subjective experiences, feelings, or self-awareness?
- Is consciousness an emergent property of complexity, or is something fundamentally missing in machines?
- What are the key differences between human intelligence and artificial intelligence?
- Could future AI systems ever deserve moral consideration or rights?
- How do our worldviews and assumptions about the mind shape our view of AI?
- What does the rise of AI reveal about what makes us human?
- Can AI ever truly understand, love, create meaning, or possess a soul — or is it forever an imitation?
We’ll also explore the relationship between artificial intelligence, philosophy of mind, neuroscience, ethics, and theology — considering whether AI is a remarkable tool, a genuine new form of intelligence, or something that may ultimately highlight the uniqueness of human consciousness.
