# Welcome to Coffee and Conversations!

MEETUP DISCUSSION: “Is Something Wrong with Us as Humans?”
Saturday, August 29 at 9:30 AM

Human beings are capable of extraordinary compassion, creativity, courage, and sacrifice. Yet we are also capable of selfishness, cruelty, dishonesty, and destruction. We desire happiness and meaningful relationships, but often act in ways that harm ourselves and others.
So, is something fundamentally wrong with us?

At this Meetup, we’ll explore what philosophy, psychology, sociology, evolutionary theory, and theology say about the human condition.

Together, we’ll discuss questions like:

  • Why do people knowingly do things they believe are wrong?
  • Are our deepest problems caused by society, biology, ignorance, trauma—or something within human nature itself?
  • Can education, technology, politics, or social reform ultimately fix us?
  • Are human beings naturally good, naturally selfish, or somehow both?
  • What does Christianity mean when it speaks about sin, brokenness, redemption, and human renewal?

Whether you approach this question from a religious, secular, philosophical, or scientific perspective, join us for an honest and thought-provoking conversation over coffee about what may be one of humanity’s oldest and most important questions.
