HIKE MT N’KWALA PENTICTON….RATED HARD

I can just see people wondering why I am posting a HARD Black Diamond hike. Well this was done about 4 years ago 🧐 And yes I posted it along with another hiker who INSISTED I would be able to do it. 3+4 hours later while being pushed and pulled yeah I made it to the top. What did not help was the plus 30 temps. I always said if I could do it at a slower speed or stop more often on continual climb up, I could do it.

So here it is. The hike is 9.5 k s and 498 elevation. Address is 3808 Forsythe Drive. Just where #97 starts to curve left into Penticton, there is a road on the right West Bench Hill, taking you up into the streets and homes above 97.

ALTHOUGH THIS IS A MONDAY, IT IS THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY, SO WORKING PEOPLE ARE FREE THAT DAY TOO.

“” Important: This park resides on Penticton Indian Band land. However, hikers are allowed to enjoy this mountain regardless of their race. Paper permits are mandatory and can be obtained from the Penticton Indian Band admin office free of charge at 841 Westhills Dr, RR#2, S80, C#19, Penticton, BC. (We never had a permit last time and encountered no problems)

The trail offers numerous viewpoints of Penticton, Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake. Bears are prominent on this trail in the fall, and hikers are advised to bring bear spray as a precaution. Remember to make plenty of noise while hiking. No maps or trail signs en-route. Pay attention to signs of trail usage instead or follow the All Trails loop “”

Many hikers have suggested doing the trail CLOCKWISE. We did it COUNTER CLOCKWISE, and that is the tough part …continuously steep uphill. Mind you going up the road clockwise is hard enough as it is very rocky. Bring lots of water, poles and bear spray.
