……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
This event has already been done once this year but at the requestof Doug Antonides he would like to lead it again. Iam posting again on a Sunday to accommodate the people who work. For those who do not know, Doug lost his lovely wife Grace the end of June due to a short and fierce battle with cancer.
In the past Doug has generously invited us back to his home for hotdogs post hike and is doing it again this time.
For those wishing to carpool in Kelowna this will be up to the individual themselves. For those wishing to car pool from west side the meeting place would be at Wings in Westbank.for 8:15 am
Following is as a write up on the columns.
The basalt/lava columns are 30 meters high and form a 100 meter cliff and are pretty cool to see. The valley and surrounding mountains are very scenic as well. The 11km return 700m moderate hike is on an uphill dirt road . Bring lots,of water and a hat if sunny.
Directions: take 97 south past Penticton and pick up the highway heading to Vancouver which comes to Keremeos before hitting highway 3. It could be 3A. Continue until you are almost at the jct of Hwy 3. You will see “Tree to me Organics” on the left at corner of Liddicoat Rd. Turn onto Liddicoat and Continue a short distance to the trailhead parking lot on the left. Many maps show this as “Pincushion” but that name is incorrect.
I have posted this event for Doug and he will be leading. I will look after a head count at the start only. I will not be hiking. This event is not essentially difficult but it is LONG.
Give yourself plenty of time. Event will start at 10:30 SHARP
