It certainly looks like snowshoeing season has arrived and I know that Nickleplate Nordic has as much if not a lot more snow than other areas closer to Kelowna. Yes it is further away than say Big White or Sovereign but not much more than 15 minutes.

Day ticket costs $12. We will take the Claim Jump trail which at most is easy/moderate, a nice one for the first snowshoe of the season, mine at least. Most always you can do this doggie trail, as it is referred to without paying.

Directions take 97 to Penticton and once you are on the channel parkway watch on your right for Green Mountain Rd. And turn right. Continue on that for at least 20 minutes until you connect with Apex Rd. Continue on this passing the Apex Ski Resort and in about 6.5 km you will come to Nickleplate.

On the left is the main parking lot. DO NOT PARK THERE. Park in the small clearing on the right as that is where we start.

Also there is a ski competition this weekend but that will not affect us.

Following the event and not under the COOC umbrella, we will return to Apex resort for lunch at the Gunbarrel Saloon before heading home. Voted 10 times in a row as the #1 Apres Ski Bar in Canada, Dress for the weather as it is usually much colder there than here in K town. They expect a high of -7 with a tad of new snow over the next few days

PS no pinpoint available. Just follow directions

If everyone wants to meet at WINGS in West Kelowna for 8:45 am SHARP we can then carpool or follow if some are uncertain of way.
