Goode’s Basin + a Peak
Details
This is an advanced hike. You need to be a strong hiker and willing to do some scramble to finish this one.
We’ll follow the same course to the top of the Goode’s Basin lookout that we did 2 weeks ago ( 5km, 496m elevation gain), take a short break and then see if we can conquer the next peak over (2km, an additional 250m elevation gain).
To do this, we head west and go down the back side of the viewpoint into what is the actual basin. We’ll make our way around or over 3 small cosps of tree’s which will place us at the bottom of the next peak. Then we’ll advance up the peak to the top, if we can.
This will be a bit of an adventure but I do not anticipate any real hazards. If we encounter anything difficult, we’ll decide as a group whether to proceed or not. Bring spikes in case of ice, as well as the usual, poles, plenty of water and food. A windproof layer is essential at this time of year.
I am anticipating 2 hours to the viewpoint on the Goode’s Basin trail, another hour to reach the top of the next peak and then 2.5 hours to return, 14km total.
