What we’re about

βœ… Do you have a passion for good food and cooking?

βœ… Do you want to learn how to cook but don't know where to start?

βœ… Are you always wanting to learn new ways to cook delicious meals?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you're in the right place!

WELCOME to The Cooking Club! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

We have numerous events for those interested in cooking awesome and authentic recipes old and new:

  1. Monthly Potlucks: The see-and-be-seen event of the month, usually held the third Friday every month, where everyone brings a dish they made, and we sample each other’s culinary adventures and generally have a great time! Please sign up even if there's a long wait list so we know who's not getting in. Sometimes hosts can find more spaces. More on potlucks below. πŸ₯˜πŸ΄πŸŠπŸΊβœ¨
  2. Hands-on Cooking Classes: Once in a while, someone organizes an outing to a cooking class (like cutting, tea latte, or sushi class) and make dishes together while learning from the pros. Members have also run classes themselves, like a pizza and a gelato class, and a tropical fruit tasting.
  3. Food Market & Tours: We've been paying annual visits to a local food market to sample delicious food and expand our palates. I have also organized food tours that focus on a cuisine, like momos, or an area, like West Village. 😊

Our potlucks have become so popular that multiple members have complained about how hard it can be to get a spot. To ensure our club remains welcoming and continues to attract new members, while addressing the challenges with potluck signups, we'll test drive some new guidelines:

  • Host Privileges: As always, the host is guaranteed a spot and can bring a guest, even when other members can't. They can also limit attendance to those who have attended previous events or potlucks.
  • Skip-The-Line Tickets, Rt. 1: Bring in a new host and earn an STL ticket! This ticket allows you to secure a spot at any potluck of your choice, even if the RSVP is full. Yes, someone may be bumped! The ticket has no expiration date and is transferable upon approval (PM me).
  • Skip-The-Line Tickets, Rt. 2: Attend 7 potlucks AND submitting a recipe for dishes brought will earn you an STL ticket as well.
  • Flexible Dates: While we aim to hold potlucks on the third or fourth Friday of the month, we're open to other dates if needed. Just let me know! The real solution to limited seats is having more potluck. I'm limited by time, but we'll try to do it for people who don't get in the regular potluck, if there's enough interest.
  • Flexible Events: Some members are talking about food tours in the city & in the Hudson Valley, afternoon teas, and other innovative ideas for this club. Let's get brainstorming!
  • New Blood: Each potluck will accommodate one or two new members, depending on available seats, if they sign up in time. See host privileges for exceptions.

The emphasis here is on cooking, learning from each other and having fun! Most events will take place in Manhattan or Brooklyn near transportation hubs so they're easily accessible for everyone, or at members' homes. :)
