Title of Talk:
Collecting all Kafka metrics through OpenTelemetry

Abstract:
Gathering traces from your applications and microservices is great, but in order to fully understand and observe what is happening in your entire application landscape, you also want to collect all Kafka metrics and telemetry from your underlying infrastructure such as Kafka metrics from your brokers, topics, partitions and consumer groups of your kafka server and convert these into OpenTelemetry standard. We will look at the current beta of what is possible today and what potentially is on roadmap for the future.

Bio:
Passionate software craftsman with 25+ years experience in a broad spectrum of development technologies and platforms. Mostly focusing on .NET/C#, the Microsoft development stack and cloud-native software architectures. Key focus also on Microsoft Azure as well as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Observability, monitoring and securing these environments are key aspects. Currently extremely interested in the Distributed Application Runtime (Dapr).

💡 Speaker Two:
Abdurrahman Barzinji, Software Engineer, Pandora & Joachim Koch, Software Engineer, Pandora

Title of Talk:
Enabling real-time personalised customer experience with Apache Kafka

Abstract:
At Pandora, we strive to ensure our customer experience is as personalized as possible. At the same time, our traffic is prone to spikes, especially during peak periods such as Black Friday and the Christmas sale. In this talk, we present one of the solutions to achieve seamless integration of customer data and interactions with our Customer Data Platform for dynamic customer engagement. Using Apache Kafka as the data integration layer, C#/.NET for the consumer, Kubernetes for deployment and management, and NewRelic with OpenTelemetry for observability, we demonstrate how we've built a robust solution that can scale to meet the demands of peak periods like Black Friday without a hiccup.

Bios:
Abdurrahman is a University of Copenhagen graduate with a background in Physics, who transitioned into software development, and currently working as a Software Engineer @Pandora. With the rising need for real-time integrations, and robust cloud solutions, his focus is on building enduring micro-services and business-oriented data-modelling, enabling all corners of the business access to said data.

Joachim is a Software Engineer in Martech at Pandora. Like Abdu, he transitioned from the University of Copenhagen, where he studied Economics before moving into software engineering. Over the past two years, he has immersed himself in Kafka, building both consumers and producers in C#/.NET and Java.
