Copper State Backpackers is moving to…

The New Year is always a good time for change. I'm putting Copper State Backpackers into retirement, it served its purpose. No worries though, we're moving to the Arizona Backpackers Club (ABC) meetup page. I started my backpacking meetup trips with them 15 years ago and knew many of the original leaders and founder. So if your not a member of it, sign up!

Its been a great run at Copper State Backpackers thanks to all of you folks that have attended and organized events. We obtained a meetup 5 star rating and had over 100 events over nearly 5 years time! I'd been reluctant to kill off the group that I created but I believe its in the best interests of the backpacking community and an opportunity to do some restructuring.

The group will be run a little differently but member driven will still be the theme. I never liked being a dicktator, lack in organizational skills and need help in many ways so every January the top 3 trip leaders in the amount of trips lead the previous year will be the leaders for the year. This year (2024) it'll be myself, Greg O. and Corwin from ABC. It’ll still be grass roots with trip leaders running their trips the way they want to.

The new format will give the opportunity for new people to rise up and keep stagnation in check with new faces and personalities. My big hope is to motivate people to lead trips, its not hard! THIS IS EVERYONE'S GROUP and this change gives everyone a chance to help guide and steer ABC for many years to come.
