The Bees of Your Backyard: Pollinator Gardening with SFU Prof Dr. Elizabeth Elle

Did you know that about one out of every three bites of food we eat depends entirely on pollinators? 🍅🐝
The true workhorses of our local gardens are the nearly 500 species of native bees right here in British Columbia. For our June meeting, the South Burnaby Garden Club is thrilled to welcome Dr. Elizabeth Elle, a Professor of Biological Sciences at Simon Fraser University!
For over 25 years, Elizabeth and her students have studied pollinators across BC's farms, gardens, and conservation areas. As an avid gardener herself, she bridges science and a love for dirt to show us exactly how to support local bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds in our own backyards. 🌸✨

🎨 THIS MONTH'S SHOWBENCH THEME: "Party Time!" Members and guests are invited to bring a design based on these fun categories:

• Garden Party: A creative Pot-et-fleur design (rooted plants combined with cut flowers/foliage in water tubes/oasis).
• Tea Party at Buckingham Palace: Your own royal interpretation.
• Pool Party: A design showing water elements.
• Christmas Party: In June? Why not! Show us your holiday spin.
