CoreOS turns 4 this year! Join the distributed systems community in DigitalOcean's office to celebrate all we've accomplished together so far. We'll have food and drinks to share. It's our birthday, but you get the gifts. We'll be giving away swag, shirts, stickers - the works.

Evan Cordell, Software Engineer (Quay), CoreOS

Evan Cordell is a software engineer tackling security challenges at CoreOS, where he has contributed to The Update Framework, Quay's image signing service, and Docker Notary. Before joining CoreOS, Evan earned a mathematics degree from Tulane University, and worked on security at LocalMed for 3 years ensuring HIPAA compliance. He’s passionate about and contributes to the macaroons project, an open source authentication alternative to cookies.

How do we securely distribute updates from a container package repository to hosts running containers?

This talk will give an overview of several trust solutions, and how they fail to provide freshness guarantees or prevent Man-in-the-middle attacks. Then it will discuss how The Update Framework addresses these problems, and explain how CoreOS implements a trust solution using the Updated Framework in the Quay container registry.

Paul Burt is a Community Manager at CoreOS. He’s upvoting your /r/kubernetes threads and answering your #coreos questions on freeNode. Paul has a knack for and demystifying infrastructure, and making gnarly, complex topics approachable. He enjoys home brewing beer, reading independent comics, and yelling at his computer when it doesn’t do what he wants.

Kubernetes 1.7, and Why You (Yes You!) Should Contribute

What’s new in Kubernetes 1.7? Paul will cover what’s worth getting excited about. He’ll cover our favorites at CoreOS. Then, given the birthday theme, he’ll also reflect on our time in the Kubernetes community. Why do we invest so heavily in open source at CoreOS? What does it mean to contribute? Finally, he’ll give a gentle nudge as to why you should get involved too.

Ariel Jatib Alonso, Strategy + Design, Cofounder, StackPointCloud

Ariel Jatib leads UX and marketing at Stackpoint.io, a SaaS tool for deploying and managing Kubernetes clusters at leading cloud providers. He also organizes and brands various Kubernetes Meetups around the world, including the NYC group. A SaaS design veteran of 15 years, he is an advocate for design systems, goal-driven software development and iterative methodologies. He’s the tall guy in the room and yes -- he plays basketball. Being Part of the OSS Community, Particularly Kubernetes

Ariel is a designer by trade, but a Jack-of-all-trades by design. He’s built a few profitable businesses, and his latest venture focuses on Kubernetes. Open Source Software has been a big enabler for him. His talk will focus on what he’s building at StackPoint.io, and how it’s empowered by liberal application of OSS through the stack.
