Join us for another adventure in our Discovering West Cork series as we head to the beautiful Gougane Barra, surrounded by mountains, forest and the peaceful waters of Gougane Barra Lake.
We’ll enjoy a relaxed day exploring the area, visiting the iconic St Finbarr’s Oratory, taking an easy walk around the scenic surroundings and having plenty of time for lunch, photos and good conversation.
For those who would like a little more walking, there will also be an optional easy nature trail — so you can choose how active you want to be on the day.
And yes, dogs are welcome! 🐶🌿
Whether you’re coming solo, with friends or bringing your four-legged companion, you’re very welcome.

We’ll meet at Gougane Barra Forest Park and start the day together with a relaxed walk around the scenic areas.

For anyone who would like a little extra walking, there’s an easy 0.5 km multi-access nature trail in Gougane Barra Forest Park.
It’s a short and accessible option for those who want to explore a little more without taking on a difficult hike.
This is completely optional — you can skip the trail and continue enjoying the main meetup with the group.
⛪ St Finbarr’s Oratory
We’ll visit the beautiful St Finbarr’s Oratory, one of Gougane Barra’s most iconic landmarks, and spend some time enjoying the peaceful setting around the lake.

🥪 Lunch & Social Time
We’ll take a break for lunch and some time to relax together.
Please bring your own packed lunch and drinks.
This will be a good opportunity to sit together, chat and get to know everyone.
🌿 Afternoon
After lunch, we’ll have some more time to enjoy Gougane Barra at a relaxed pace — whether that’s taking photos, chatting with the group, enjoying the scenery or simply taking some time to unwind.
Expected finish: around 4:00 PM, although you’re welcome to stay longer and continue exploring independently.
💰 Cost
If we parked the cars outside the gate of Gougane Barra Forest Park we can walk inside for free. If you want to go inside with the car it’s €5
🐾 Bringing Your Dog?
Absolutely! 🐶💚
This is a dog-friendly meetup, so feel free to bring your four-legged friend along.
Please make sure your dog is comfortable around groups of people and other dogs, and bring:

🦴 Treats if needed
Please keep dogs under effective control and on a lead where required, and be mindful of wildlife, livestock and other visitors.

• The easy nature trail is optional — you can choose whether you’d like to do it.
• No strenuous mountain hiking is planned.
• Some paths may be wet or uneven, so suitable footwear is recommended.

• The itinerary may be adjusted slightly depending on weather and conditions.
