Cork|Sec 125

Details

Running since June 2013, every month we have 1-2 talks focused on Security or Technology - followed by socialising with like minded people – and you can find out exactly what to expect about the night and the venue on the What We're About section of our Meetup page. Past talk details are on our wiki on http://corksec.com/. All people with any sort of an interest or level of knowledge in Security, Hacking and Emerging Technology are more than welcome to attend and feel free to bring like minded colleagues and friends.

CorkSec is made possible through generous sponsorship from our Silver Sponsors Trend Micro and CyberSkills , as well as our Bronze Sponsors featured prominently on the night.

Doors open at 19:00 with talks starting at 19:15. Talks below

TALK 1: CryptPad, end-to-end encrypted collaborative office suite - David Benqué
Online collaboration often comes at a price: privacy. Online office-suites now offer real-time collaboration but in return they gain full access to the content of documents. On the other hand, existing solutions to keep documents private (i.e. encrypted) typically do not allow for real-time collaboration. In this talk I will present CryptPad, an end-to-end encrypted and open-source collaborative office suite. Our goal is to show that collaboration and privacy are not mutually exclusive: yes, you can have both!

TALK 2: Engineering Security Solutions: Perspectives on developing a Ransomware remediation solution - Donnacha Forde
In this talk, I'll cover the journey of engineering remediation solutions from concept to implementation, through to going GA. We'll take a look back at where we were circa 2016 with regard to the Ransomware threat and discuss what options were considered to remediate an attack once it has been detected. We'll cover the journey through to 2020 and examine rollback remediation and explain why it's a non-trivial exercise and how close monitoring of suspect 'greyware' is critical to achieving a successful remediation. We'll also discuss Performance Engineering and how CI/CT & Automation help small engineering teams pivot and iterate quickly.
