Cork|Sec 141

Details

Running since June 2013, every month we have 1-2 talks focused on Security or Technology - followed by socialising with like minded people – and you can find out exactly what to expect about the night and the venue on the What We're About section of our Meetup page. Past talk details are on our wiki on http://corksec.com/. All people with any sort of an interest or level of knowledge in Security, Hacking and Emerging Technology are more than welcome to attend and feel free to bring like minded colleagues and friends.

CorkSec is made possible through generous sponsorship from our Platinum Sponsor Trend Micro, Gold Sponsor CyberSkills , as well as our Silver and Bronze Sponsors featured prominently on the night.

Doors open at 19:00 with talks starting at 19:15. This month we also have a bus load of people coming down to join us from the UCG CyberSecurity Society in Galway - so we're putting on some free Pizza on the night for all attendees! Talks below

TALK 1A: Overview of MTU Cyber Innovate Program by Ronan Coleman
Cyber Innovate is designed for experienced professionals who want to sharpen their innovation expertise, expand their networks, identify cybersecurity related business problems, develop solutions and turn these innovative ideas into reality.
This postgraduate programme is for professionals with 5+ years of experience and a Level 8 degree (or equivalent), ready to commit full-time to the future of cybersecurity innovation.

TALK 1B: AI-Powered Incident Response – Automating Security for Faster Threat Mitigation by Ammar Zeini
Incident response (IR) teams are overwhelmed by manual processes,
and miscommunication which affects their ability to contain threats effectively. AI-driven automation can revolutionize IR workflows by generating contextual playbooks, and reducing response time.

TALK 2: "From HTTP to HTTPS: The PKI Magic That Keeps the Web Safe" by Shubham Sharma
In an era where cybersecurity threats are more prevalent than ever, how do we ensure secure communication, data integrity, and authentication online? The answer lies in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)—the foundation of digital trust.
This talk will break down how PKI works, the importance of digital certificates, and how Certificate Authorities (CAs) establish trust across the web. We will explore the structure of a digital certificate, its key parameters, and how browsers, applications, and organizations use them to secure online transactions.
Whether you’re a developer, security professional, or just someone curious about why you sometimes see "not secure" for a website, this talk will provide valuable insights into the backbone of online trust.
