Details

Running since June 2013, every month we have 1-2 talks focused on Security or Technology - followed by socialising with like minded people – and you can find out exactly what to expect about the night and the venue on the What We're About section of our Meetup page. Past talk details are on our wiki on http://corksec.com/. All people with any sort of an interest or level of knowledge in Security, Hacking and Emerging Technology are more than welcome to attend and feel free to bring like minded colleagues and friends.

CorkSec is made possible through generous sponsorship from our Platinum Sponsor Trend Micro, Gold Sponsor CyberSkills , as well as our Silver and Bronze Sponsors featured prominently on the night.

Our talks come from our community so if you have an idea for a topic (anything for 10-60 minutes) please email us at **DefconCork@gmail.com** . Whether you are an experienced presenter, or presenting for your first time - CorkSec is a great venue for it - and we are happy to help you prepare and mentor you.

Doors open at 19:00 with talks starting at 19:15. Talks below

TALK 1: Threats to cybersecurity careers by Owen O'Connor
In cybersecurity we think deeply about threats to systems, information, and organisations – but not about our own careers. For us as individuals, our careers are of huge value: tactically important to pay our bills, and clearly strategic long-term. But what is our threat model for a career, how do we monitor threats, how do we respond?
This talk will stand back from cybersecurity work to think about whole careers. I’ll outline the academic idea of “sustainable careers” and look at how that maps to our world. We’ll then explore particular threats identified by security practitioners: the factors that might derail a career or harm that idea of career sustainability. This is based on work-in-progress for a PhD at UCD, hopefully leading to a better understanding of cybersecurity career threats and how to mitigate them.

TALK 2: The meaning of AISOC (AI-Augmented SOC, Agentic SOC) by Nnamdi Okonkwo
What does an AI-Augmented “Agentic” SOC actually look like in practice? I’ll show a lightweight AISOC built on AWS with a real reverse-shell simulation, ELK-based telemetry, and a simple fusion model that combines malware and log signals into actionable tiers (NORMAL / SUSPICIOUS / HIGH-CONFIDENCE ATTACK). We’ll cover what works today, caveats, and a pragmatic roadmap.
