What we’re about
The idea behind this group is to give people with an interest in creating something - be it a painting, sculpture, music, novel, movie, or something completely different - a group of fellow creatives they can meet up with for support, stimulating conversation, and friendship. Events may range from going to see a play or a gig, to taking a helicopter ride, to simply gathering at a coffee shop or restaurant. The main thing that connects us and our events is our shared love of creating something, so every event will include time to talk about this and get to know each other better. One last thing: I live right at the eastern end of Cornwall (near Liskeard), so I've scheduled the first couple of events in that area (one is even in Devon!) but I would *love* suggestions and recommendations for events across the WHOLE of Cornwall. Ideas I've had include: a trip to the Minack Theatre on October 14th to see short plays by young playwrights (not yet on their calendar); a trip to Truro on November 2nd to see Dawn French's "Dawn French Is a Huge TW*T" at the Hall for Cornwall; Fowey's Festival of Arts and Literature in May 2024; and trips to Falmouth, St. Ives, and various places across Cornwall for our regular "Creative Chat" mixer events at restaurants.

See all- Matinee of musical "Young Frankenstein" at the Devonport Playhouse then dinner.Devonport Playhouse, Plymouth
Overview: We'll meet at 2pm at the Devonport Playhouse to see musical "Young Frankenstein", then after the show we'll have dinner at the nearby "School of Spice" Indian restaurant, giving us time to talk about the show and learn about our creative interests. Please note there are two performances on this date and we are seeing the earlier one!
Note too that this event is cross-posted with a couple of other groups, so my 'guest' count reflects those signed up elsewhere :)
The theatre: The show starts at 2:30pm at the Devonport Playhouse located at 6C Fore St, Devonport, Plymouth. You can find more info on the theatre, including how to find it and accessibility information, here. We'll aim to be at the theatre by 2pm so that we can meet up before taking our seats.
The show: In this brilliant stage musical, adapted by comedy genius Mel Brooks from his legendary movie, young Frederick Frankenstein - grandson of the infamous Victor - has inherited his family's estate in Transylvania. With the help of sidekick Igor and lab assistant Inga, Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. "It's alive!" he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather's. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity ensues.
Dinner: After the show ends (probably around 5 to 5:30pm) we'll relocate to "School of Spice" at 33 Marlborough St, Devonport, Plymouth PL1 4AE for some after-show discussion and to get to know each other a little better. The restaurant is only a five-minute walk away but there is also ample parking very close to the restaurant. They don't provide a restaurant menu online, but their takeaway menu is available here, and they offer vegetarian and vegan options. We've eaten here on several occasions and everything was absolutely delicious every time! Please note they *may* only accept cash (although I think we saw people paying by card last time).
Tickets: Tickets purchased online here cost £20 (adults) or £16 (children, students and over 65s), with no booking or delivery fees for e-tickets. Be sure to select the matinee - i.e., **2:30pm** - performance on Saturday October 12th! I have purchased a ticket for seat A16, in the front row of the Stalls (i.e., the row nearest the stage in the lower level seating area). If you need to book over the phone, or want to ask for more information, call the box office on 01752 560726.
Accessibility: The theatre has a wheelchair lift (this has a weight limit of 200kg and is only available for manual wheelchairs) to enter the Playhouse, with two spaces for wheelchairs at the back of the Stalls. They also have a disabled access toilet available. School of Spice restaurant is on the ground floor and there are no steps.
Parking: Parking is much easier in Devonport than in Plymouth city centre (for example). There is a free car park very near the restaurant and lots of street parking spaces, which are likely free on a Saturday. However, please check all posted signs before leaving your car!
