Corporeal Mime Online Training - Taster Session
Details
“Transforming Action into Art”
This is a 2-hour taster session for my online classes.
The class is ideal for anyone interested in theatre, physical expression or creativity. Performing arts practitioners, teachers, students and enthusiasts are all welcome.
During the session you will experience the basics of Corporeal Mime including:
- how to articulate the parts of the body with geometric precision;
- how to breathe life into action through rhythm and dynamic texture;
- how to vary the degree of weight and resistance within an action;
- the study of a figure from the repertoire of Corporeal Mime, as an example of stylised dramatic action.
The session will also include a short talk about Corporeal Mime, its history, technique, repertoire and creative processes.
If you enjoy the class you’ll be able to go deeper with the 6-week course which starts on May 2nd (classes every Saturday from 7-8:30pm JST until 6th June, plus mid-week technical training sessions - timing to be decided).
All our online classes are available to anyone who subscribes to our Patreon page www.patreon.com/tarinainanika.
Patreon is a crowdfunding platform where patrons pay a monthly contribution of their choice, which they can change or cancel at any time.
ABOUT CORPOREAL MIME
Corporeal Mime is a dramatic art based on the expressive power of the body. First conceived by Etienne Decroux in France in the early 20th century it is an independent art with its own distinctive technique, repertoire and creative processes. Studying Corporeal Mime builds physical self-awareness, control and creativity, enabling you to express your thoughts, ideas and emotions more dramatically and beautifully.
ABOUT THE TEACHER
Tania Coke is the co-director of tarinainanika, an international theatre company specialising in Corporeal Mime which she set up in 2011 with Kentaro Suyama. Together they also run the Corporeal Mime School of Performing Arts in Osaka. tarinainanika’s original works include Rey Camoy, Tokyo Fugue and Coffee & I which the company has performed across Japan and internationally, attracting 5 star reviews and funding from the likes of Japan Foundation, Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation and Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation. Tania trained with the legendary Steven Wasson and Corinne Soum (last assistants of Etienne Decroux) and was a long-time member of their company, Theatre de l’Ange Fou.
