The NoCo Astronomical Society is hosting a great event - the Astronomy Day Extravaganza! There are two events you can enjoy:
A daytime family friendly STEAM event: 10 AM – 2PM at Front Range Community College Sunlight Peak Building (North of the Library)
- Demonstrations on the science of light
- Hands-on demonstrations of telescopes and how they work
- Introduction to Deep Sky Objects (nebula, clusters, galaxies)
- Basics of navigating the night sky
- Observe the sun with NCAS volunteer solar telescopes (weather permitting)
- STEM-based arts & crafts!
- There will be cool bags filled with astronomy swag for the first 200 kids registered!
- Free raffle prizes – first prize is a backpack with 7x50 binoculars, a 1-year membership to the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, 1 – year NCAS Membership (or extension if already a member), astronomy books and a planisphere! Second and third prize are great too!
An indoor night-time event: 5:45pm-7:30pm at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery
- Light refreshments & social time
- Dr. Fran Bagenal speaks on Exploring the Outer Solar System. Dr. Bagenal is a Senior Research Scientist at LASP and a recognized expert on planetary exploration. She has been involved in numerous missions including Juno, Galileo, Deep Space 1, and New Horizons.
