Behind the Launch: Inside NASA's IMAP & SWFO Missions
Details
Come hang with the Cosmic Cowboys before your Saturday night takes off!
I’m thrilled to invite you to a special talk with my friend Rosemary Gonzalez, who works in space-mission engineering (yes—rockets!). Rosemary was part of the team behind the recent IMAP launch and is generously taking time to share the story, insights, and behind-the-scenes look at how it all came together.
This is a rare chance to hear firsthand what goes into a high-profile space mission from someone who actually worked on the rocket—plus, you’ll get a fascinating glimpse into how scientists study the Sun, track space weather, and keep our technology safe here on Earth.
The IMAP launch included three missions: IMAP, SWFO, and Carruthers. Rosemary supported SWFO (Space Weather Follow On – Lagrange 1), whose mission is to monitor solar activity from the Sun-Earth line at L1, 24/7, helping protect critical infrastructure, the economy, and national security.
We’ll gather for an informal talk, Q&A, and time to mingle afterward.
Bring your curiosity—and any space-weather questions you’ve been saving! 🌞🚀
There will be a fee of $10 at the door! Cash or Venmo.
