A Chain Reaction: Launching an Interchain Interoperability Standard

Details
Join us for a meetup with Agoric, FOAM and oscoin in town following the weekend Diffusion hackathon. We'll be explaining the implications of the upcoming release of Inter-blockchain Communication (IBC), an open-source interoperability protocol.
Over the past few months, Tendermint, Interchain Foundation and Agoric have been working on the inter-blockchain communication standard. You'll hear news about the interoperability protocol (IBC), the previous work that has been done, why projects like Agoric got involved and what to anticipate over the next few months for your own projects.
Ongoing work on the Github repository: https://github.com/cosmos/ics
IBC Ecosystem Integrations: https://github.com/cosmos/ics/blob/master/ECOSYSTEM.md

What we have planned:
6:30 to 7ish: Drinks and snacks - get to know the team
7 - 8: Presentation and informational session from Dean Tribble (CEO of Agoric) and Chris Goes (Lead Engineer on IBC at Tendermint) on building the standard, challenges and design.
- There will be an open discussion about what the launch of an blockchain interoperability protocol means for applications like FOAM and other projects like oscoin.
8 - 9: Drinks and networking

Dean Tribble, Agoric CEO, designed the negotiation process and contract for the first smart contracting system, AMiX. As a Principal Architect at Microsoft, he designed the Midori distributed object-capability operating system. As founder and CTO for Agorics (acquired by Microsoft), he developed the brokerage information system for Schwab’s active traders, the WebMart system for electronic contracts, and the first electronic check project by the FSTC for the DoD. As CTO of VerifyValid and VP of Deluxe, his echeck systems have carried billions of dollars.
Christopher Goes is a protocol developer & researcher at Tendermint/Cosmos primarily focused on inter-blockchain communication. He is also a co-founder of the proof-of-stake validator company Cryptium Labs. He hopes that distributed ledgers will shift the economics of network effects in favor of aligned incentives and positive-sum games, enable effective solutions to tragedies of the commons at scale, and facilitate the dismantlement of the surveillance capitalist technology cartel.
