Details

“The howl of a great beast echoes across the moors…”.

For the group's first-ever(!) session, we will discuss an all-time cosy classic: The Hound of the Baskervilles.

About the book:

  • Published in 1902, Hound is arguably the best of the Sherlock Holmes novels and one of the most beloved books in the mystery genre. The story blends elements of gothic horror with detective fiction.
  • This book is public domain, which means you can find text and audio versions online for free.
  • I recommend getting in the cosy spirit by settling down to read with a large mug of something and some 221B background ambience.

About the event:

  • Location: Mad Hatter Hotel (pub), 3-7 Stamford St, London SE1 9NY
  • Timing: Saturday, March 29th, 3 - 5 pm.
  • I have a table booked for six guests at the Mad Hatter. It’s approximately 15 minutes walk from Waterloo station along the river. I'll have a sign on the table and a copy of the book so it should be easy to spot where we're meeting.

We’re starting with a small group as this is the first session for the Cosy Genre Fiction meetup - we'll gradually expand the numbers in future sessions. Please cancel if you are unable to attend so that other people can join. The Mad Hatter is a wonderful venue, so let’s be good guests and each buy a drink or a snack (there are plenty of non-alcoholic options for those who prefer).

There will be a set of questions to shape the discussion (e.g., ‘Did anything surprise you about the book’?), but these are just prompts to keep the conversation going.

I look forward to seeing you there!
