“It is quite a risk to spank a wizard for getting hysterical about his hair"

You probably know the film, so let’s check out the book! On Saturday 28th June (5 - 7 pm), we will discuss Diane Wynne Jones’ fantasy novel, Howl’s Moving Castle.

About the book:

  • Published in 1986, Howl was famously adapted by Studio Ghibli in 2004. The film differs from the book in certain ways that I won’t spoil.
  • Reviewers have identified Wizard Howl as a Byronic Hero, albeit one who is more than usually preoccupied with his hair.
  • The novel features a talking fireplace and a Welsh song about saucepans.

About the event:

  • Location: Mad Hatter Hotel (pub), 3-7 Stamford St, London SE1 9NY
  • Timing: Saturday, June 28th, 5-7 pm. It’s approximately 15 minutes walk from Waterloo station along the river. I'll have a sign on the table and a copy of the book so it should be easy to spot where we're meeting.
  • Please update your RSVP if you are unable to attend so that other people can join. The Mad Hatter is a wonderful venue, so let’s be good guests and each buy a drink or a snack

I look forward to seeing you there!
