What we’re about

### About Couch Friends

Couch Friends is a third space created for Black folks, by Black folks.

The intention of Couch Friends is to facilitate community and belonging by offering free, consistent gatherings where people can simply be present and connect over time. This space exists because community thrives on proximity and familiarity—and many of us need places to be with one another that don’t require money, productivity, or excessive effort.

Couch Friends meets weekly to create a rhythm people can return to. By making connection part of a routine, we hope to make friendships easier to build and maintain. There are no requirements to gain entry, no expectations to perform, and no pressure to show up in any particular way.

Some gatherings are lively. Some are quieter. People bring conversation, games, music, food, or simply themselves. All of it belongs.

Couch Friends is not a networking event, workshop, or facilitated group. It is a communal space rooted in care, acceptance, and organic connection—where belonging does not need to be earned.

### About the Organizer

Couch Friends was created by someone who deeply values community and has spent years noticing how hard it has become for people—especially Black folks—to maintain meaningful friendships in adulthood.

The idea grew out of a simple observation: most friendships don’t fade because people don’t care, but because life gets busy and there are very few spaces that make consistent connection easy. Seeing friends occasionally, planning around schedules, or needing to spend money every time adds friction that slowly pulls people apart.
Couch Friends is an attempt to remove that friction.

Instead of asking people to make big plans or show up in a specific way, this space offers something simpler: a regular place to gather, be in each other’s presence, and let connection grow naturally over time. It’s modeled after the kinds of spaces many of us remember—living rooms, porches, and familiar places where people could just be.

This group isn’t about building a brand or an audience. It’s about building familiarity, comfort, and community—slowly, consistently, and together.
