Session #1: Build offline- first mobile & edge applications with Couchbase Mobile

What we'll discuss:
If your mobile app stores data locally, you’ve probably at least looked at SQLite or Core Data. These come with their share of pain points. Database schema changes are inevitable with changing requirements and require tedious data migration. Now what if you wanted to retrieve remote data or sync back the local data to backend servers? The internet is inherently unreliable and there is no guarantee that there would be no network disruptions during data transfer. A simple API endpoint won’t suffice. Further, what if multiple users are concurrently updating the same data causing data conflicts? Enter the world of offline-first applications wherein applications need access to data in completely disconnected environments but also need the ability to access and transfer data to remote servers when network connectivity is available.

For many years Couchbase Mobile has been at the forefront of enabling offline-first mobile and edge applications for customers across all industries. In this talk, you will get a technical overview of Couchbase Mobile platform, which includes an embedded database and robust sync solution for mobile and edge applications. Specifically, we will be highlighting the new features of our newly launched Couchbase Mobile 3 that developers and architects can take advantage of.

Couchbase mobile has gone through many iterations over the years and has evolved into what it is today. I want to take the opportunity to talk about several enhancements that are either coming up or have already been released. Priya Rajagopal is a Director of Product Management at Couchbase responsible for the product portfolio for mobile and edge computing. She has been professionally developing software for over 20 years in several technical and product leadership positions, with 10+ years focused on mobile technologies.

Daniel James is a Solutions Engineer at Couchbase designing & architecting solutions using our Mobile technologies to solve the problems faced by our customers.

Amrish Raje is a part of the Modernization Practice at Infosys and is currently involved in designing and developing applications using open source technologies like Couchbase and Kafka. He has extensive experience with database migration, cloud enablement and legacy modernization.
