What we're about

If you’ve ever wanted to make abstract art, or learn new ways to improve what you’re doing now—this is the Group for you!

This group is for anyone who wants to have fun creating a mixed media painting using acrylic paints, collage elements, markers and other tools. MAKE SURE TO READ RELEVANT INFORMATION IN THE DISCUSSIONS TAB—AND ADD YOUR COMMENTS!🤗

This is a great platform for artists to connect and share their process in a safe non-judgemental environment. Now, more than ever, people need a creative outlet to find more meaning in life and to connect with others of like mind.

My mission is to share HOW the Art2Life Creative Visionary Program has helped me to change how I make art and to inspire those who are looking for ways of shifting their own process.

Let’s do this!🌈🙏😍

SESSION #2–CONTINUING YOUR ABSTRACT PAINTING

Online event

THIS IS THE SECOND OF A 3 PART SERIES ON HOW TO TAKE AN ABSTRACT PAINTING FROM START TO FINISH. Although it is not compulsory to sign up for all three classes, if you wish to learn the process I use I would recommend the series.

In this session we will review what we have so far then we’ll be adding collage elements to our artwork—whatever speaks to you and of course we’ll continue to keep in mind the two most important things in making good work GREAT—DESIGN & VALUE! We’ll also be using other mark making tools such as Posca pen, crayons, charcoal, chalk pastel etc.

AGENDA:

2:00–Admission to call
2:10–Intention for the call
2:15–Getting into the fun part—ART MAKING! I will be giving EXPLANATIONS THROUGHOUT.
Participants may unmute themselves to ask a question at any time.
3:30–end--SHOW & TELL!

MATERIALS NEEDED (this is a guideline, get creative!):

—Collage: from magazines, books and handmade
—12” x 12” GESSOED wood panel or cradle board, or canvas or paper
—acrylic paints (3-4 colours PLUS BLACK & WHITE)
—Gloss medium or gel medium
—a few brushes (one flat, one round and one small)
—water containers (jars, yogurt containers, etc)
—rectangular dinner tray (dollar store), parchment paper and blue Scott towels to use for palette—this is optional
—80-120 grit sandpaper
—palette knife, trowel or bowl scraper and any other tools for scraping.

MY PROCESS is completely unplanned, with no preconceived result—just being present to what appears on the canvas and responding to it intuitively, but also keeping in mind the guidelines of COMPOSITION & CONTRAST. I literally do not know what I’m going to do until I do it—especially in the beginning, then as the painting becomes more refined I do have to make some calculated decisions!

I WILL BE REFERRING TO the GUIDELINES THAT I FOLLOW IN MY PROCESS AS WE PAINT. EVERYTHING I LEARNED WAS FROM TAKING A 12 WEEK ONLINE ART PROGRAM last year CALLED THE CREATIVE VISIONARY PROGRAM WITH FOUNDER NICHOLAS WILTON—Check him out on YouTube. I think you will get a much clearer idea of the PROCESS I use. I can provide some other great references too!

YOU MOST DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE EXPECTED TO PAINT WHAT I'M PAINTING, BUT RATHER, PAINTING from WHAT YOU LOVE--THEN YOUR FINISHED PRODUCT WILL FEEL LIKE YOU!

GROUP GUIDELINES:

PLEASE TURN NOTIFICATIONS ON IN YOUR MEETUP PROFILE SO YOU CAN RECEIVE UPDATES, COMMENTS OR AT LEAST REMINDERS FOR EVENTS AND MESSAGES FROM ORGANIZERS.

WHEN YOU RSVP FOR AN EVENT I WILL SEND YOU THE PASSCODE FOR THE ZOOM LINK. FOR RETURNING MEMBERS, THE PASSCODE WILL BE THE SAME. PLEASE TURN MICS OFF ON ENTERING, UNTIL REQUESTED TO UNMUTE.

PLEASE ENTER ZOOM 5-10 MINUTES EARLY IF POSSIBLE AND I WILL LET YOU ON THE CALL FROM THE WAITING ROOM SO THAT WE MAY START ON TIME—BARRING ANY TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES!

SESSION #3–CONTINUING YOUR ABSTRACT PAINTING

I WILL BE REFERRING TO GUIDELINES AS WE PAINT--YOU MOST DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE EXPECTED TO PAINT WHAT I'M PAINTING, BUT RATHER PAINTING WHAT YOU LOVE--THEN YOUR FINISHED PRODUCT WILL FEEL LIKE YOU!

GROUP GUIDELINES (subject to change):

I AM NEW TO MEETUP MYSELF AND CREATED THIS GROUP JUST OVER 5 WEEKS AGO TO CONNECT AND HAVE FUN PAINTING WITH OTHER ARTISTS. This is a work in progress and I am constantly editing the dynamics and content of the group based on feedback from members.

At this time I am opening this class to more participants and increasing the class size to accommodate everyone.

I ASK THAT YOU NOTIFY ME IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO MAKE THE CLASS THAT YOU SIGNED UP FOR--THEN I CAN OPEN IT UP TO THE NEXT IN LINE ON THE WAIT LIST.

AGENDA:

2:00–Admission to call
2:10–What the intention is for this series, my process and the importance of making this abstract painting a reflection of YOU.
2:15–Getting into the fun part—PAINTING! I will be giving EXPLANATIONS THROUGHOUT and answering questions and comments as we go.
3:15–SHOW & TELL!
3:30–Acknowledgement 🙏

MY PROCESS:

Generally I work in multiples, usually 3 or 4 paintings, depending on the size of the pieces--and I encourage YOU to try this too! This will release you from boredom and frustration that often comes with working on a single piece--and it keeps it way more FUN!

In my process, if I'm beginning a new body of work, I start with play and experimentation--just putting paint down—and letting that inform what to do next. As the painting(s) progress with further passes, your choice of what to do next will become more and more refined, all the while using composition, contrast and colour.

As your painting progresses, we will be adding texture using collage elements, stamps, markers, etc then coming back in to paint, sand or scrape, depending on WHAT YOUR PAINTING(S) NEED(S).

This method of art making is the most fun I’ve had creating in years and I invite you to listen to what YOU really like, and even though your painting will go through an “ugly” stage (this is when a lot of people give up and let self-limiting beliefs creep in), I guarantee you, if you keep going, you will LOVE your creation at the end—because it’s a true expression of YOU!

MATERIALS NEEDED (this is a guideline, get creative!):

—12” x 12” (or similar size) wood panel or cradle board, canvas or paper (gessoed or not)
—acrylic paints (3-4 colours PLUS BLACK & WHITE)
—Gloss medium either liquid or gel, this is essential
—a few brushes (one flat, one round and one small)
—water containers (jars, yogurt containers, etc)
—rectangular dinner tray (dollar store), parchment paper and blue Scott towels to use for palette—this is optional
—80-120 grit sandpaper
—palette knifes, trowel, bowl scraper and any other tools for scraping often found in your household tools or the kitchen.

PLEASE NOTE:
IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME TAKING THIS CLASS, ONCE YOU RSVP TAKE NOTE OF THE ZOOM ID AND I WILL SEND YOU THE PASSCODE FOR THE CALL. THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE TAKEN A CLASS BEFORE, THE PASSCODE IS THE SAME.

PLEASE ENTER THE WAITING ROOM ON THE ZOOM CALL 5-10 MINUTES EARLY AND I WILL LET YOU IN ON TIME TO AVOID DELAY IN STARTING (BARRING ANY AUDIO VISUAL ISSUES!).

LET'S DO THIS!
