# TONIGHT'S THEME: DON'T TELL MY MOTHER

Some stories begin with a bad decision.
Some begin with a secret.
And some begin with the words:
"Whatever happens... don't tell my mother."
Maybe it was the night that got completely out of hand.
The trip you weren't supposed to take.
The party you definitely weren't supposed to attend.
The tattoo.
The accident.
The lie that grew bigger and bigger.
The relationship your family never found out about.
Or the moment you realized:
"If my mother ever hears about this, I'm finished."
Tonight is about the adventures we kept hidden.
The mistakes we hoped nobody would discover.
The close calls.
The cover stories.
The moments that seemed like a good idea right up until they weren't.
Some secrets bring embarrassment.
Some bring chaos.
Some become family legends years later.
And some are still secrets.
At least for now.
Tonight we celebrate the stories that almost got us grounded, disowned, arrested, stranded, fired, dumped, or all of the above.
Because every unforgettable story starts with one simple thought:
"Nobody can ever find out."
And somehow...
they usually do.

A Story Slam is a night of true, personal stories told live.
Funny, emotional, awkward, wild, or unforgettable —
stories that actually happened.
Each event has a theme that inspires the night.

### Theme: DON'T TELL MY MOTHER

Story time: 5–7 minutes

• Cozy drinks, wine, and snacks

# IMPORTANT FOR STORYTELLERS

Your story must:

• Be a real story (something that actually happened)
• Be told live (no reading)
• Clearly connect to the theme: DON'T TELL MY MOTHER

If it doesn't follow the theme or isn't a story, it won't be eligible for scoring.

# WANT TO TELL A STORY?

Here's how it works:

### DO

• Tell a real story — something that actually happened
• Keep it 5–7 minutes
• If you go over, we'll flash a light
• Make sure your story has a beginning, middle, and end
• Give us stakes — why should we care?
• Be honest. Be vulnerable. Be real.

### DON'T

• No essays, lectures, or philosophy speeches
• No reading from notes or paper — speak from the heart
• No complaining — shape it into a story with meaning
• No stories that ignore the theme

Audience judges give a score.
At the end of the night, we crown the Story Slam winner.
